A Workout For Your Calves

Question: What's a good exercise for toning the calves?

Answer: Calf raises shape and tone the lower part of your leg. Doing calf raises is also helpful in preventing knee injuries and shin splints.

Try this exercise at home or while you are standing in line at the market. This is also an easy exercise to do while you are waiting line at the movies or while you wait for the kids soccer practice to end.

Do three sets of eight to 10 repetitions.

Stand with your heels a few inches apart and toes turned out. With straight legs, lift both heels up off the floor leaning in toward the big toes.

Lower the heels and plie by bending both knees slightly, until you feel a deep stretch in your calves. Repeat.
